Match Process to Part
The right molding process depends on a part’s size, geometry and appearance requirements. Longtai runs three molding processes and combines them when a part calls for it:
- Resin sand (no-bake): self-hardening resin sand molds with stable dimensions, suited to medium and large parts.
- Resin-coated sand: used for shell molds and cores, suited to small parts with fine features and internal cavities.
- Green sand (clay-bonded): suited to small parts in high volume, at a low cost per piece.
Simulation Before Pouring
Before pattern tooling is built for a new part, simulation software models how the iron fills the mold and solidifies, predicting casting defects and optimizing the gating system. Problems surface before the pattern is made, which shortens development time and gives greater assurance of casting quality.
High Mix, Low Volume, From One Piece
Most parts are made to customer drawings, in many varieties and small batches, with orders accepted from one piece. Patterns, core boxes and gating systems are designed part by part. With more than 1,000 pattern sets stored on site, repeat orders need no new tooling.
The melting, heat treatment, machining and painting that follow are also done in-house. See Capabilities.
